Jeff Zucker
He said “there are vested interests in
perpetuating those inefficiencies,” such rethinks are required since
“content used to be king but now consumers wear the crown.” Failing to
change TV’s “wounded business model” would “destroy the business
once and for all,” he warned. |
While I attended the NATPE 08 in Vegas I took a few pictures and notes during the five days with TV's top executives and program developers...surf some and see what is going on in TV and how they are trying to position themselves so as to not have the same fate as the music biz |

"In addition to the selling, buying, pitching and schmoozing that defines the NATPE ritual, prominent speakers lined up for the 45th edition of the gathering include NBC U prexy and CEO Jeff Zucker, on Tuesday; Shelly Lazarus, chairman and CEO of ad behemoth Ogilvy and Mather Worldwide, on Wednesday; and FremantleMedia North America CEO Cecile Frot-Coutaz on Thursday.
Also skedded for this evening is NATPE's fifth annual Brandon Tartikoff Legacy Awards. This year's honorees are former NBC U chief Bob Wright, CBS Paramount Television Entertainment Group prexy Nancy Tellem, Warner Bros. TV prez Peter Roth, and Mark Itkin, the William Morris Agency's syndie biz stalwart and co-head of worldwide TV." Variety Magazine After CES I learned about the "next now future" of projectors...funny you did not hear this addressed at all among the TV guys...the VoD threat, combined with the 3rd screen and the Internet just sharpens the double edge sword that is upon the television industry. Somewhere NATPE needs to embrace and evolve to CES...or CES is going to eat their Hollywood lunch. |

The exhibit floor was fun, with the big boys...CBS, FOX, NBC, etc. and independent shows that would take a booth to show their programs or special show...distributors and producers would make their way from booth to booth shopping for new programming...while at the sessions you become aware that a huge change is in the wind, that many in the biz itself do not see or have any idea to the paradigm shift that is upon them...
"The air has gone out of the balloon...gone were the elaborate structures of old...Sony met with clients off-site and with out paying registration fees...CBS TV did not get exhibit space..." HOLLYWOOD REPORTER ON NATPE |
